Ihsan Hines is also known by
the name Purpose. Purpose is an annointed man of God who's gospel rap ministry has reached
thousands of people. Whether young or just young at heart, many have been blessed by
Purpose's clear and creative lyrics as he delivers the Gospel of Jesus Christ through rap
music, spoken word and just general conversation. Purpose is a native of Philadelphia who
accepted Jesus Christ as his LORD and Savior when he was a child. He gives honor and
thanks to God for His grace and mercy. Even though Purpose has made some wrong decisions,
he knows Jesus has never given up on him. Purpose is a disciple of Christ and a member of
Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia under the leadership of Pastor Alyn Waller.
Prior to being led to join Enon, Ihsan has been a member of Truth Memorial Baptist Church
( Pastor William Smith ) and Sharon Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Keith W.
Reed. The name Purpose was revealed to Ihsan during devotions and prayer. He believes
people can find peace and joy when they understand their purpose is to glorify God and get
a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. He says, "A relationship with Jesus
reveals ones purpose, provides understanding, peace during trials, and encouragement to
press towards goals". Purpose desires to live each moment trusting in the LORD while
sharing the love of God with other people. Purpose says "I don't look down at people.
Instead I help them to look up towards God because I'm not perfect, just forgiven".
He knows that Jesus has set him apart for a unique purpose, so he counts it a blessing and
a privilige to receive eternal life and to testify about the gospel of Jesus Christ. After
graduating as valedictorian of West Philadelphia High School, Purpose studied business law
at Temple University. While at Temple, he focused primarily on the three W's. These were
wealth, women and weed, and he also rapped secular music under the name "Proper aka
Philly Phanatik" for some of his young adult years. He has recognized that period as
a time of self glorification. Purpose realized that he was never satisfied and his soul
was craving for God's love. Purpose has turned away from that sinful lifestyle and
dedicated his life to Jesus. He is now studying at Eastern University in Philadelphia.
Purpose says, "Jesus Christ has blessed me through His favor, love, grace and mercy
and He has forgiven me". Purpose has discovered many things about himself and
experienced the influence of hip hop on our culture. He has seen hip hop as a gateway of
expression. He says, "For some artists it provides a platform to express joy and love
while others express frustration, disappointments and pain. Artists express what they
experience, what they see and how they feel." Purpose believes urban youth want to be
loved and understood so they need ministry that shows them how much Jesus wants to be the
focus of their lives. He realizes that Jesus wants to save souls that others may have
given up on. God has called His children to be light within this dark world, and Purpose's
purpose is to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively and compassionately. He
says, "It is God's will that people come to have a relationship with Jesus" and
Purpose is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. He knows the task of reaching the hearts
and minds of lost souls is not an impossible goal and Purpose is prepared to share in the
blessings as well as the sufferings of Jesus Christ. Purpose trusts that Jesus will
continue to use him as a living sacrifice in ways that Purpose can't even use himself. One
of Purpose's favorite scriptures reads, "All things work together for the good of
those who love the LORD and are called according to His purpose." Ihsan says that he
loves when people are challenged to grow after hearing from Jesus. Jesus speaks through
the man of God so the glory and applause are due to Him. Why clap, rap, dance, rap and
sing if there isn't a change afterwards? The lifestyle response is more important than a
